September 15 - Our Lady of Sorrows “Woman of the New Covenant”
ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
Hail, holy Mary:
we venerate you as Mother of Sorrows;
we acclaim you as Woman of the New Covenant,
ratified in the precious blood of your Son.
The Gloria is said where solemnity is celebrates

Father most holy, who willed to associate Our Lady of Sorrows,
Woman of the New Covenant,
to the sacrifice of your Son;
through the merits of his precious blood,
grant, we pray, that your Church, born of Christ’s pierced side,
may always celebrate the memorial of his work of redemption
with the love of our Mother Mary showed.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

The mother was admirable and bore everything because of her hope placed in the Lord.
A reading from the second book of Maccabees
7:1, 20-29
In those days, it happened that seven brothers with their mother were arrested
and tortured with whips and scourges by the king,
to force them to eat pork in violation of God's law.
Most admirable and worthy of everlasting remembrance was the mother,
who saw her seven sons perish in a single day,
yet bore it courageously because of her hope in the LORD.
Filled with a noble spirit that stirred her womanly heart with manly courage,
she exhorted each of them
in the language of their forefathers with these words:
“I do not know how you came into existence in my womb;
it was not I who gave you the breath of life,
nor was it I who set in order
the elements of which each of you is composed.
Therefore, since it is the Creator of the universe
who shapes each man’s beginning,
as he brings about the origin of everything,
he, in his mercy,
will give you back both breath and life,
because you now disregard yourselves for the sake of his law.”
Antiochus, suspecting insult in her words, thought he was being ridiculed.
As the youngest brother was still alive, the king appealed to him,
not with mere words, but with promises on oath,
to make him rich and happy if he would abandon his ancestral customs:
he would make him his friend and entrust him with high office.
When the youth paid no attention to him at all,
the king appealed to the mother, urging her to advise her boy to save his life.
After he had urged her for a long time,
she went through the motions of persuading her son.
In derision of the cruel tyrant, she leaned over close to her son
and said in their native language:
“Son, have pity on me, who carried you in my womb for nine months,
nursed you for three years, brought you up,
educated and supported you to your present age.
I beg you, child, to look at the heavens and the earth
and see all that is in them;
then you will know that God did not make them out of existing things;
and in the same way the human race came into existence.
Do not be afraid of this executioner,
but be worthy of your brothers and accept death,
so that in the time of mercy I may receive you again with them.”

it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns,
and on its heads were seven diadems.
Then war broke out in heaven;
Michael and his angels battled against the dragon.
The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail
and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
The huge dragon, the ancient serpent,
who is called the Devil and Satan,
who deceived the whole world,
was thrown down to earth,
and its angels were thrown down with it.
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have salvation and power come,
and the kingdom of our God
and the authority of his Anointed.
For the accuser of our brothers is cast out,
who accuses them before our God day and night.
They conquered him by the Blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
love for life did not deter them from death.
Therefore, rejoice, you heavens,
and you who dwell in them.
Then the dragon became angry with the woman
and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring,
those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus.

The role of Our Lady of Sorrows, Woman of the New Covenant
It is truly right and just, to give you thanks,
and fitting to acclaim and proclaim your bountiful love,
holy Father, almighty and -powerful and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.
In your providence you gave us your Son as Savior;
and by the cross, the Virgin Mary, most loving Mother,
was joined to him inseparably.
In view of the blood of our Savior
you preserved her from all stain of sin
and gave her to the human race
to serve the redeeming mission of Christ
as the new woman, exemplar of a new creation.
Exalted above the choirs of the angels and saints,
the Blessed Virgin intercedes with her Son for us,
who grieve for the burden of sin and sorrow.
but guided by the Holy Spirit,
journey toward our heavenly homeland,
where joy is full, beauty enduring and happiness everlasting.
And so, together with the angels and saints,
we sing with one voice the hymn of your praise:

July 1 - The Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ
ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
You have redeemed us, O Lord, by your blood,
from every tribe and tongue, from every nation and people. Cf Rv 5:9

Father, who through the blood of Jesus your Son,
the Lamb sacrificed on the cross,
redeemed us, sanctified us, and made us your people;
grant that all may accept this gift of your love,
celebrate it joyfully in the Spirit,
and drink of it in the Eucharistic chalice,
the sign of your covenant and blessing.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

When Moses came to the people

abolishing the law with its commandments and legal claims,
that he might create in himself one new person in place of the two,
thus establishing peace,
and might reconcile both with God,
in one body, through the cross,
putting that enmity to death by it.

for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners,

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Father most holy, accept the gifts of bread and wine,
our food and drink, which we offer,
so that, made holy by the power of your Spirit,
they become signs of the new covenant
and transform us into witnesses of reconciliation and peace.

Christ consecrates the new covenant in his blood.
It is truly right and just,
all-holy and merciful Father,
always and everywhere to raise
a hymn of praise and thanks to you
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
the true Passover Lamb.
He, the Eternal High Priest,
offered himself to you as a perfect sacrifice;
sharing our sufferings, he gave us his body,
and through the cross, our shining hope,
he consecrated the new covenant in his blood.
Your Church, imbued with the Holy Spirit,
basks in the glory of this mystery of love;

PREFACE
Christ consecrates the new covenant in his blood.
It is truly right and just,

offered himself to you as a perfect sacrifice;

Lord our God,

And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now."
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs at Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.

She went immediately and announced to the disciples: “I have seen the Lord”.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
20:1-2, 11-18
On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.
And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there,
one at the head and one at the feet
where the Body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”
She said to them, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where they laid him.”
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there,
but did not know it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?
Whom are you looking for?”
She thought it was the gardener and said to him,
“Sir, if you carried him away,
tell me where you laid him,
and I will take him.”
Jesus said to her, “Mary!”
She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbounì”,
which means “Teacher”.

It is truly right and just,
our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,

You, Father, are the source of life and font of holiness;
in your providential love, you chose Saint Maria De Mattias
and adorned her with the gifts of the Spirit,
so that in the Church, she might be
a herald of the light of the divine Word,
a messenger of reconciliation and peace,
a fearless witness of the Precious Blood of Christ,
and of the salvific glory of the cross.
In her life you offered us a sign of your love
for the poor, for sinners,
for exiles and the excluded.
Her example encourages us

Help for Life Center
On February 5, 2023 we celebrated the World Day of Life with the theme “Death is never a solution. “God fashioned all things that they might have being, and the creatures of the world are wholesome, and there is not a destructive drug among them.” (Wis. 1:14) The bishops’ hope is that this annual remembrance will “renew Catholics’ adherence to the ‘Gospel of life,’ their commitment to unmask the ‘culture of death,’ their ability to promote and support concrete actions in defense of life, thereby mobilizing ever greater energy and resources.”On February 5, 2023 we celebrated the World Day of Life with the theme “Death is never a solution. “God fashioned all things that they might have being, and the creatures of the world are wholesome, and there is not a destructive drug among them.” (Wis. 1:14) The bishops’ hope is that this annual remembrance will “renew Catholics’ adherence to the ‘Gospel of life,’ their commitment to unmask the ‘culture of death,’ their ability to promote and support concrete actions in defense of life, thereby mobilizing ever greater energy and resources.”This is the goal of the “Help for Life Center” project dedicated to Sr. Serafina Cinque, ASC, which was inaugurated on March 14, 2023 at the “Cittadella Sanguis Christi” run by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ community located in Trani. The work team, composed of Sr. Mimma Scalera, community animator and project coordinator, Sr. Anna Grazia Di Liddo and Sr. Lucia Volpi, social workers, Sr. Liana Campanelli, psychologist, Dr. Giuditta Cippone, psychotherapist and project supervisor, and Dr. Filomena Labriola, pedagogue, is committed to raising awareness of the issue of the protection of Life and to publicize the work done in the center on behalf of families, young couples and single women who for various reasons are in doubt or thinking about an abortion.It is also a coordination center that will collaborate with local agencies, professionals and people that a mother may need, providing free services with confidentiality. Specifically, the team is committed to accompanying women and families during pregnancy with individualized approaches in order to promote knowledge and attention on the experience of motherhood to the people in this area. In the future it will offer the opportunity to participate and volunteer to those who share our values.It is a small sign of openness, a commitment for us and the city to women facing difficult pregnancies for various reasons, and it is a symbol of gratitude and acceptance of life in all its stages in the belief that “every life is worth the Blood of Christ!”

Responsible in the Face of Pain
“The tragedy of Cutro reminds us that the situation of migrants and refugees is the responsibility of everyone.”
On behalf of the International Union of General Superiors, I want to express our deep sorrow at what has been happening these days in Italy following the February 26 shipwreck of migrants near the beach town of Steccato di Cutro close to the town of Crotone. Every day we witness terrible images that grieve us and arouse mixed emotions. We feel outrage at seeing the number of victims growing inexorably, and we experience emotion and indignation at the great number of deaths of innocent men, women, and children, while the generosity of rescuers and the testimony of local people edifies and encourages us to always be on the side of the other.On behalf of the International Union of General Superiors, I want to express our deep sorrow at what has been happening these days in Italy following the February 26 shipwreck of migrants near the beach town of Steccato di Cutro close to the town of Crotone. Every day we witness terrible images that grieve us and arouse mixed emotions. We feel outrage at seeing the number of victims growing inexorably, and we experience emotion and indignation at the great number of deaths of innocent men, women, and children, while the generosity of rescuers and the testimony of local people edifies and encourages us to always be on the side of the other.Along with the controversy over what could have gone differently, we question the value of existence, hospitality and solidarity, while Pope Francis continues to call everyone to fraternity as the core value of true humanity. We are bombarded with opinions while sea rescues of boats at risk continue with hundreds of men and women trying to reach the shores of Italy. But the crammed first-reception centers are incapable of providing an adequate response to an unprecedented migration phenomenon. The data we are given says that between January and February arrivals have doubled, and to stem the growing number, policies stategic are ...... amidst controversy and searches for responsibility. In this social framework, the International Union of General Superiors wants to express its regret at what is happening, because we are aware that we are talking about people with faces and stories ... of our brothers and sisters who in searching for a better tomorrow and hoping for a better future, risk their lives at sea to do so. The death that takes place in the waters of the Mediterranean grieves us greatly. The victims who lost their lives at sea and, along with them saw their human rights drowned and their hope destroyed, cannot leave us dumbstruck. We have already, on other occasions, expended words. Now the time has come. Their cry cannot leave us indifferent any longer. We want to make their despair heard and be a voice for their pain and their wounded, demeaned and shattered dignity.Humanitarian dramas of this magnitude cannot continue to be tolerated. Laws and economic policies that disregard human rights and condemn people to misery can no longer be tolerated. This tragedy reminds us that the situation of migrants and refugees is everyone’s responsibility. We ask national and European governmental institutions, to “choose life” (cf. Deut. 30:19) by pointing out responsible and humane ways of support and aid, agreeing on humanitarian corridors, promoting equity as a principle of social justice, the basis of peace and friendship among peoples.We cannot forget that sacred history is steeped in exoduses and welcomes. As we ask the Lord for a compassionate heart, capable of genuine pity and contrition for what has happened once again because of human responsibility. we implore God to give us the strength to understand how to intervene, and not to become addicted to these images, but to stand on the side of the weak and recognize the value of the other. Life is precious; it is God’s gift and it is worth the Blood of Christ always and in all ways. We are asked for the commitment and safekeeping of a precious good for all.
